Understading What Traction Hair Loss Means
Understanding Traction Hair Loss
Traction hair loss is a form of hair thinning caused by prolonged tension or repeated pulling on the hair. It commonly affects high stress areas such as the hairline, temples, and scalp edges. This condition develops gradually from consistent mechanical strain on the hair follicles over time and can be worsened by harsh styling materials and extreme weather conditions that weaken the hair and increase follicle stress.
Traction hair loss is different from alopecia areata. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the hair follicles, often leading to sudden, patchy hair loss. In contrast, traction hair loss is caused by external stress on the hair rather than an internal immune response.
Genetic hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia, is another separate condition. It is influenced by hereditary and hormonal factors and typically presents as gradual thinning at the crown or a receding hairline in predictable patterns.

Common Causes of Traction Hair Loss
- Tight hairstyles such as braids, ponytails, buns, cornrows, dreadlocks, weaves, or extensions
- Frequent use of hair accessories that pull on strands
- Constant tension from hair styling or chemical treatments
- Extreme weather conditions that dry out and weaken the hair, making it more vulnerable to breakage under tension
- Harsh styling products or materials that increase scalp stress and place additional strain on the hair follicles
Signs To Look Out For
Receding hairline or thinning edges
Broken hairs along the hairline or throughout areas under consistent tension
Give Your Hair the Break It Needs to Regrow
While regrowing your hair, we strongly recommend avoiding tight or tension-causing hairstyles and harsh styling products. Allow stressed areas time to recover, creating the ideal environment for healthy, natural regrowth.
Protein treatments can be beneficial, but overuse may leave hair dry, stiff, and more prone to breakage, so moderation is key.
Hair Misting for Growth
Lack of moisture on the scalp and hair weakens strands, making them more prone to breakage and hair loss.
Just like a plant needs regular watering to grow, it’s crucial to lightly mist the scalp and hair with water, not drenching, before applying hair care products, to boost serum penetration, reduce breakage, and create the ideal environment for healthy, fuller hair to thrive.
Getting a spray bottle filled with water for this regular routine is essential, as it helps you control the amount of moisture applied and ensures even, light distribution without over-saturating the hair.

How To Apply
Apply twice daily and massage thoroughly into the scalp and hair.
Gently massage into the beard and to the roots twice daily for deep moisturisation. For best results, apply after a bath, because misting before oil application is essential. Avoid applying directly to the face.
If you’re trying to grow your hairline alone, it’s advisable to focus on the troubled area. For best results on a full head of hair, section the hair before applying oil to the scalp. Moisturising your scalp and hair lightly with water before applying hair treatments is important, whether you’re focusing on a specific area or your entire head, as it ensures proper oil penetration and creates the ideal environment for thriving hair growth. Lightly mist the hair with water, just enough to hydrate, not drench, then massage oil into the scalp and hair afterwards.
While regrowing your hair, we recommend avoiding tight or tension-causing hairstyles, especially in troubled areas, and harmful hair products that damage your hair for optimal results.
We advise that you use only this hair growth treatment while attempting to restore your hair, as this will yield better results. Please avoid DIY methods.
For optimal results, we do not recommend sharing a bottle of this treatment with others
Consistency is key. Skipping application is not an option. What you put in is the results you get out.
